Afghanistan Talk From Ex-Cadet

Lance Corporal Andrew Beardsley, an ex-Cadet of 2425 Squadron, visited our headquarters to give a talk on his Army career to current cadets. LCpl Beardsley left 2425 Squadron in February 07. He had been a cadet for 4 years, just under a year of that was spent with 2425 Squadron. He had always wanted to join one of the services and the RAF was his first choice but when it became clear that he might have to wait a while he turned his attentions to the Army.

During his basic training he won Best Recruit award. Following his trade training he was eventually posted to 14 Signal Regiment and subsequently deployed on various operations, including various locations in Afghanistan. During his talk he described the equipment and methods used in his role as an electronic warfare specialist to a packed hall full of enthralled Cadets. He even brought along some items of clothing and equipment for Cadets to see and try on first hand.

He told Cadets how appreciative he was of his ATC background which helped him all the way through his Army career and told the Cadets that the experiences they receive with the ATC will benefit them whatever they do in the future. During his visit he also met up with some old friends that were also cadets in 2425 Squadron during the time he was there. We wish him all the best for the future and hope that he will visit again.
