Sgts Lincoln and Smith Lead The Way
Two of our most promising female cadets, Corporals Lincoln and Smith were recently nominated by Flt, Lt Frost, Officer Commanding, to attend a Junior Leaders course at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire. The week was designed to enhance the leadership skills of the many cadets that attended from all over the region.
Cadets were taught how to lead teams, plan exercises and solve problems. Exercises included: “swamp crossing” and “spiders web” as well as Orienteering. There was also a long timed run carrying a heavy log, drill training and mid-way course interviews with staff.
Bunks had to be kept tidy throughout the week as they were inspected regularly by staff. Nothing could be out of place! Likewise uniforms and presentation had to be spot on too – eg the boys had to be clean shaven or they were sent back to their bunks and made to shave before being allowed to start the days activities!
Cadets who completed a certain high standard of drill were allowed to parade on the main parade area that RAF Officers use when ‘passing out’.
Corporal Lincoln said “This was the hardest thing I have done with the ATC but also the best camp I have ever been on! I made many friends on the course as we relaxed and bonded as a team during the week. I was taught how to lead and plan and about attention to detail needed when solving problems”.
Flt Lt Frost said “I was proud of the way the two female cadets represented our Squadron and congratulate them on passing the course”.
In fact Flt Lt Frost was so pleased with their progress that he subsequently promoted them both to the rank of Sergeant! Well done to Sergeants Lincoln and Smith.
