Street Collection Raises Nearly £1000 For RAFA

Cadets from 2425 (Nottingham Airport) Squadron, based at Tollerton, raised almost £1000 (£972.08) for the Royal Air Forces Association, or RAFA, during a street collection in one day in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Then on the following day they were applauded during a service at St Mary The Virgin Church, Plumtree, both inside the church, and afterwards when they marched past the church in front of the war memorial.

This has become an annual event for the squadron on Battle Of Britain Weekend.

Mr Whitaker, the local RAFA representative, said “The cadets at 2425 Squadron continue to raise significant sums of money for RAFA and we are extremely grateful for their support. Young people are often unjustly criticised but the Air Cadets of 2425 Squadron show that many young people do good work in the community by raising money in this way for the less fortunate”.

In church on the Sunday the service was dedicated to ‘The Few’, the RAF aircrew that took part in the Battle Of Britain. Cadet Mullis, from 2425 Squadron, gave a reading to the congregation as part of the church service.
