The Squadron is a registered charity run by volunteers. The Civilian Committee meets approximately once a month. Our role is to ensure cadet welfare and to assist the Commanding Officer in any decisions made, when required. We are also responsible for the maintenance of Squadron funds.
We receive some funding from the Royal Air Force, which covers flying, gliding, shooting and blue uniforms. Any other activities and equipment have to be paid for out of Squadron’s own funds. Thus, fundraising is important within the Squadron, alongside other the main cadet activities. Where possible, cadets are encouraged to help with fundraising.
During the past 12 months we have helped to finance events such as:
• Presentation Evening – all cadets were subsidised in full for the evening.
• Annual camps – we subsidise a percentage.
• Non-cadet activities – bowling evenings, climbing wall day etc.
• Cadets Christmas party at Squadron – paid for in full.
Funds have also been raised for the purchase of adventure training and computer equipment.
To do so, we organise a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, including:
• Bag packing – performed by the cadets under staff supervision.
• Helping out at local events – i.e. Tollerton Village Event.
• Rempstone Steam Rally – running book stall and wine/water stall.
• Local jumble sale – i.e. Keyworth.
These are just a few examples of our contribution to the Squadron. Of course, none of this would be possible without a lot of hard work by our Committee members, which is a small and friendly group, mainly made up of the parents of the cadets.
We always welcome new members and would appreciate offers of extra help, even if you cannot commit to regular or long term assistance.
Why not come along to our next committee meeting on Monday 7th July @ 7pm and give us a try? We are always looking for fresh fundraising ideas.
