Rempstone Steam Fair Report

Once again our Squadron supported the Rempstone Steam Fair by selling programmes and parking the many hundreds of cars that visited over the two days of the show. Around 40 cadets and staff camped over the weekend and when not working they enjoyed the other attractions of the event, such as the traditional funfair, steam engines, stalls, demonstrations, etc. Warrant Officer Larry Parker’s traditional wake up call of ‘Good Morning Rempstone!!’ echoed around the campsite at 6.30 am each day and the first shift of cadets were on duty after breakfast at 8am, showing the early arrivals into their parking spots. It was a long hot weekend and cadets had to keep taking on plenty of water as they worked their alternating two-hour shifts, finishing at 4pm each day. The Committee once again provided the food on the Saturday night providing much-needed fuel for Sunday!
On the Sunday we were joined by Kevin ‘Mitch’ Mitchell, a representative from our adopted charity Help For Heroes. Mitch set up a stall with our Squadron and raised a staggering £725 in one day selling T-shirts and other H4H merchandise. Our own book stall, tombola and ‘Wine or Water?’ stall raised a similar amount for our Squadron funds so thanks to all who donated. This money goes towards buying equipment and subsidising future activities for our cadets.
